Guitar Hero 5 Wii new in-game Leaderboard Score Rankings

Guitar Hero 5 Wii new in-game Leaderboard Score Rankings

Guitar Hero Wii rockers have been jealous for a long time of the Xbox360's in-game leaderboards since Guitar Hero 3Guitar Hero World Tour first gave Wii rockers an in-game leaderboard; but for many people, simply accessing the leaderboard causes the Wii to freeze completely! (I speak from experience – the leaderboards only worked for the first few weeks after GHWT release and then 100% lockups ever since, until I eventually was forced to delete my save file months later due to the GHWT Corrupt Save File Bug.)

With Guitar Hero 5, Wii developers Vicarious Visions have taken the bull by the horns and completely reengineered the leaderboards into a badass new system that shows more data & statistics than any previous GH game by far!

Take a good look at the above image of "Iron Maiden – 2 Minutes to Midnight" taken just 2 hours after GH5 released.

New features of the leaderboards include:

  • #1 Ranked Player/Score always shown on top for reference
  • Time column shows the age of each score
  • Brilliant color-coded scroll bar now shows scores' relative positions, as well as overall ratio of scores to skill levels
  • Yellow "Rock Record" button allows you to view detailed lifetime play stats for any player! (Incredible – more on this in link)

The leaderboards' data will only become more interesting as time goes on and more players buy the game.

How do the leaderboards handle the new GH5 Multiplayer modes?

Online Bands All Receive Equal High Score Credit On the New In-Game Leaderboards

Remember the Career Band mode in Guitar Hero World Tour?  Only the Host would get credited for the band's total score.  In Guitar Hero Metallica (and GHWT Quickplay), online bands didn't receive any high score credit at all! Now in GH5, all participating Bands receive a high score entry on the new Band Leaderboards. The participating bands' names will all show up in a row with the same score and same timestamp, indicating the score was achieved with as many players as there are matching scores/times.

Separate Leaderboards For Traditional Bands and "Any Instrument" Bands

Score-conscious players were concerned how GH5 would handle the ability of 4 high-scoring Guitarists to rack up more points than a "true" band consisting of Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Vocals.  GH5 handles this brilliantly by separating Band Leaderboards into Traditional Band and Band (anything goes).
