Video: Van Halen Eruption solo, Guitar Hero Phenom vs. Eddie Van Halen

Share/Bookmark

Guitar Hero's top player and biggest celebrity Danny "GuitarHeroPhenom" Johnson from Texas (holder of 8 Guinness World Records), proves his worth by mastering the famous Eddie Van Halen "Eruption " guitar solo within 1 hour of getting the just released Guitar Hero Van Halen game.

Watch Danny work his magic 1-handed at 1:33 – 1:38!

How does this compare to a live performance of the same solo by Eddie Van Halen himself?  You be the judge:

Now, Danny's guitar headstock can't hold a smoking cigarette for that 1980's coolness factor, but it's safe to say that both show off some impressive fretwork.

I just saw one of GHP's recent videos, he now uses a GH5/BH guitar minus the faceplate. About time he upgraded (or maybe he didn't like the GHWT guitar).

He said all his GH3 Les Paul guitars were broken, and that they aren't manufacturing them anymore.  In his Band Hero unboxing video he made it seem like he was switching to the BH (GH5) Guitar.

I sure wonder why he takes the faceplate off, though.  It really makes the strum clicking hollow and noisy.

Phenom is a newb compared to the real stuff Eddie does. When that wanna-be learns real guitar and does Eddie's licks, THEN I'll be impressed. As good as I am at GH, I have to admit there's a hell of a lot more skill involved with real guitar. Clicking buttons and a plastic bar is no way to impress a crowd.
