Who Knew People Played Guitar Hero Using Standard Controllers Instead of Guitars?
Some Guitar Hero Players Desperately Miss Standard Controller Compatibility
While reading about the Band Hero 3 song demo, I stumbled upon a passionate complaint from a die hard standard controller Guitar Hero player named "oAssassin Xo":
Guitar Hero sucks after GH3. Why? You can no longer use a controller. Mostly the younger gamers don't understand what the big deal is but music games use to be about having fun. Frequency, Amplitude….etc. Suddenly you can no longer use a controller for music games. It defeats the purpose. Your probably asking if thats the only reason I use a controller. No:
1. These accs. for the GH/Rock Band games are expensive and go often. My controller is not some special thing required for the game.
2. Sure the Guitar is easy to play but frankly it feels and looks stupid. If I want a guitar I'll use the real thing. Anyone that uses this and thinks they are a real guitar god is lame.
3. Music is something that unites everyone. Yet now music games separate people because companies won't allow controllers in the mix anymore.
So overall GH/Rock Band have failed in my opinion. They are at this point just milking the cash cow by constantly releasing new games/DLC/Instrument versions. If they cared anything about gamers as a whole they would include controller use again for music games. LONG LIVE FREQUENCY/AMPLITUDE!
I have to admit, this defense seems both bizarre and absurd.
On one hand, the complaint of a controller being supported up to GH3 but then unsupported in Guitar Hero World Tour and forward, is understandable.
But to me, playing the game's iconic guitar controller is a major part of Guitar Hero. The game is designed after all, to be somewhat similar to running your hand(s) up and down the neck of a real guitar, while strumming in time with the rhythm. Playing the Guitar Hero controller is half the fun.
But What Do You Think? Are There Really Standard Controller Players Jamming Out There ?

ALL about the standard controller, man! not only could you get props for being able to do it (apparently not everyone can handle it) it's just tons of fun! if you can rock the guitar controller on expert playing "through the fire and flames" try doing it with the standard controller … WAY more challenging! now THAT's a great way to impress friends, especially in a public tourny! i WISH i could play gh5 with the controller
Actually, that would be awesome to see someone FC TTFAF with just a controller. Sadly, I don't think anyone would do that………..ever.
Before I got my second guitar, I made my little brother use the Wii Remote on GH3. Since I got GHWT (& 5, but that was just the game), we both used a guitar (unless I felt like singing or using the drums). Sure, controller use being gone isn't a huge loss, but I would be alright if they decided to bring it back. Though, like you said Josh, using the instruments is half the fun.
Hi, I have just found this thread over the net while searching but wanted to add a little something here,
Some people might have heard about me on the Guitarhero.com Forums as I'm a Group Tour member of UKFURYTHOR, but to shorten my story Downloaded GH3 Demo on the xbox360, got hooked playing it with a standard Joypad Controller, Bought GH3 just the game as I enjoyed playing the demo so much with a joypad and found it very fun. Bought GH2 as I heard you could also use a joypad, then bought GHA aswell, I would have carried on buying the genre while having the time of my life with the pad, but they stopped the use of the pad after GHA, to opt out for playing with the pad to using the pads mic port ONLY!!
Now as a Hardcore Guitarhero Joypad player I've gotten comments on forums and on xbox live like It's called Guitarhero not Joypadhero, been called all the names you can thing of, been sent nasty and hateful messages, been called a Lair, and now the latest is gamers who you come up against whether it be playing with them or playing against them who think they are clever when they know you play with a Stardard Joyad Controller but want to get a 1up on you by saying they do also, when you know as a joypad user yourself their are not telling the truth as only Legit Joypad players really know what is or whats not possible to accomplish. Either that or they are telling the truth but have bought a Modified Joypad Controller. ( Each to their own but I am dead against any form of MODS/Cheats just for the purpose of so called "Being the Best" and getting a childish 1up over fellow online gamers )
There are also other reasons why people play using a Standard Joypad Controller aswell not just as an option but maybe there were left with no choice, just like myself not only do I find it fun, but as I live on my own where moneys tight, I have no furniture only a Television on the floor with my xbox beside it, I sit cross legged on my carpet that I found hard to save up for and playing a Guitar Controller either cross legged while sitting on the floor or using it standing up hours upon end while your Television is flat on the floor is not practical at all and certainly would not be fun. Others may have there very own reason aswell, for example medical reasons and such, but who really do like the Guitarhero Music Francaise but using a Guitar Controller is just not an option at all.
I will say this though in my honest opinion for activision to stop the use of the Joypad other than the Mic Port after they put the coding in their previous Titles is and was not just a bad idea, but a lazy/money profiting one also on their part.
They might think like others do, It's called Guitarhero not Joypadhero but for them to let others play like that in the first place only to be stopped dead is simply put Not Fair, and the result in this action has stopped many people out their enjoying many hours of Fun.
I agree Gh sucks now because there is no more standard controller option. I play with standard controller and its a lot more fun and even takes a lot more skill to do it. A fake guitar is pretty lame and stupid looking and feeling. They need to format the games to fit ALL controllers why half way do things if they are going to do it do it all the way TOTALLY
This guitar hero controller ONLY policy has got to stop! I quit guitar hero for this ONLY reason is because I can't use the Standard controller anymore! If guitar hero allows me to use my normal controller I would gladly buy more guitar hero games!
yeah i bought this game and i am very pissed….where i know how to play the guitar made for guitar hero i absolutely hate it and always play on the controller and my friends come and want to battle they have teh guitar and i ahve the controller (i wouldn't waste money on buying 2) I WILL STICK WITH GH3
i just went out and got guitar hero the greatest hits
now i've always played on the controller, i just seem to find it a lot better than the guitar
i thought that it was possible to still use the control but i've just put it on and it seems i cant
can i not use the control for greatest hits either or am i missing some technique to make it work

hey guys i agree with the whole playin with the standard controller ive got 44 100% fc's on GH3 and 32 on Aerosmith using the standard controller they definitely need to bring it back in the new games. Oh and btw i finished TTFAF on the controller but the inhuman achievement didnt upload and i only got the activate star power 3 times which sucked. and i cant seem to finish it anymore cause of how much strummings required. the intro's easy ive fc'd it many times

First you brag about your FC's, then you challange every other Standard Controller Gamer out there by giving your gamertag via this website out to a 1v1 followed by your Cliffs oF Dover score, and then that wasn't enough you had to make a third post saying ( BRAGGING! ) and even typing at the start "Oh and btw" how you finished TTFAF followed by and finishing off by saying that you had beaten the intro to that song many times and that it was easy.
Whats just so wrong with wanting to have fun on a game with the way you would like to play it and just Have Friendly Fun! Either by yourself or with others.
Why turn everything into a competition all the time and to gloat to make yourself feel like your all that and better than other people!
Just have fun out there with a Standard Controller if you enjoy using it

A) Yes your right I do so im very sorry – but I feel very strongly on this topic and therefore write massive in depth essays in posts and get angry and hurt over people whom I think are lying nath,
When I've tried over & over and failed time after time again at something for over 3 years of none stop playing with just a plain wired xbox360 controller,
( without feeling the need to cheat/buy a modded controller which can rapidfire the notes so you can hit strum notes btw to pass the songs or just simply lie by just buying and then using the guitar controller or anything like that )
then along comes someone who not only says they can do things that I can't after years of trying but says infact its easy is very belittling to me/others who try legit, not only as I've played the game none stop for 3 years now but as I really do know and I'm experienced enough on the game to know certain songs are impossible to accomplish via a standard xbox360 wired controller without cheating/modding or lying in some form or another like for example many upon many of youtube videos which I think "IMO as i've tried so hard at certain songs" are false/fake and not legit.

In Short terms:-

2. As Im in my late 20's I Play Only For Fun just for the simple interaction with others with no challenging gameplay, just having a good time, I always play fairly and I hardly never play PFO or FO as I'm not interested in beating anyone at all. Its just about being involved and playing with friendly gamers together not against them for me.

A) Even though you say its not an attack on me, your more or less saying that If I thought I was really any good at using a standard wired xbox360 controller on the only 3 gh titles there is I would speak up ( challenge you ). I'm not stupid nath I knew what that last line implied, but again I'm not turning this into a post war so i'm not going to be nasty towards you with a reply, but I do want you to understand this, I do use a pad on the 360 just If you had any doupts at all in me that I didn't and I do consider myself to be a "Legit" and a not to bad of a standard wired xbox360 controller user.
But just to finish of my post and my reply to you in short nath without being nasty towards you at all which I should have posted in the first place so sorry about that is,
I'm in my late 20's who plays simply for the interaction with others for a fair and fun time together who is simply not into all that I am good and so come on and try to beat me thing, I'm a legit not to bad at all GH Jopad only user and the differance between me and any other person like yourself nath is simply none other than that.

And like you i can only play with the standard controller cause playing with the guitar hurts my wrist which i mangled a while back. but seriously dude its just a game i like to have fun but i like to win and theres no harm in that aye. The only reason i would ever buy a modded controller is if it had a gutar brain in it (which im looking for) and that was all because then i could play all the new guitar hero games which i so desperately wanna do.
