Wii Finally Getting Full Metallica Death Magnetic Album DLC in November 2009

Nintendo Wii Guitar Hero 5 players will finally get all 11 DLC songs from Metallica's "Death Magnetic" album on November 24, 2009, after a full year of only having 4 of the 11 tracks that Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 owners have been enjoying since September, 2008.

However, the album will cost $22.00 for Wii owners, compared to $17.99 (1440 MSP) for Xbox and PS3 owners.  And, all signs indicate the Wii DLC will only work with Guitar Hero 5, leaving Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Metallica owners in the dust.

Metallica's official website announced the long anticipated news:

Remaining Death Magnetic Tracks Coming To Wii
10/30/2009

Eight songs available November 24, 2009
If you've been playing Guitar Hero on the Wii, you may have noticed that we were short a few songs when it came to "Death Magnetic" – well no more! Our friends at Guitar Hero have been working long and hard with Nintendo so that Wii fans can now play the eight “Death Magnetic” songs not previously available for that gaming system.
Starting November 24, additional tracks from "Death Magnetic" will be available as downloadable singles for 200 Wii points each. If you're keeping score, that would be "All Nightmare Long", "That Was Just Your Life", "The Day That Never Comes", "The Judas Kiss", "The End Of The Line", "The Unforgiven III", "Suicide & Redemption J.H." and "Suicide & Redemption K.H." Enjoy!

It's funny that last week, 5Frets.com wrote an article covering the full story and history: When Will Wii Get the Full Metallica Death Magnetic Album DLC?, and just 1 week later, we get exactly what we asked for!  5Frets.com gets traffic from all the Guitar Hero game developers (Neversoft, Activision, Vicarious Visions, and Red Octane), but let's just chalk it up to a big coincidence. ;)

Death Magnetic DLC Track List and Pricing

Wii players had the following 3 songs available in Guitar Hero World Tour for 200 Wii Points each, since last September:

  1. "Broken, Beat & Scarred"
  2. "Cyanide"
  3. "My Apocalypse"

Now that Guitar Hero 5 is available and supports all the Guitar Hero World Tour DLC, these 3 songs will continue to be available, in addition to the remaining 7 songs only for Guitar Hero 5 owners:

  • "All Nightmare Long" (this was included on the Guitar Hero Metallica disc for Wii and PS2 owners)
  • "That Was Just Your Life"
  • "The Day That Never Comes"
  • "The Judas Kiss"
  • "The End Of The Line"
  • "The Unforgiven III"
  • "Suicide & Redemption J.H." (solo by James Hetfield)
  • "Suicide & Redemption K.H." (solo by Kirk Hammett)

If Wii owners want to purchase all 11 songs, it will cost 2200 Wii Points ($22.00).

Death Magnetic DLC Won't Be Compatible With Guitar Hero World Tour or Guitar Hero Metallica Wii

Since Guitar Hero 5 came out, the year-old Guitar Hero World Tour got left in the dust, as no new DLC would ever be offered from that point forward.  Only Guitar Hero 5 DLC would be offered (which is not backwards compatible with GHWT).

There have also been no indications or reasons to believe the Death Magnetic DLC will be detected & incorporated into Guitar Hero Metallica Wii, the way it was for Xbox and PS3 players.

Want to know the history of the Death Magnetic DLC, and how some players bought it for GH3 and have been able to reuse it free in GHWT, GHM and GH5?  Check out: When Will Wii Get the Full Metallica Death Magnetic Album DLC?

Death Magnetic came out today for Wii.  I just finished downloading & playing The Day That Never Comes and That Was Just Your Life. :D

200 Point Single tracks only – no track Pack, no album, no GHM Import.

I'm surprised they did the update on a Tuesday and that it came out as promised. I didn't actually check over the weekend so I'm assuming it just came out tonight. But the Leaderboards show scores dating back for several weeks.. Makes me wonder how those guys got this DLC? Beta testers or….?

About time we got some good Metal DLC, nice long songs with high skill rankings. The Day That Never Comes is a 9/10 on Guitar.

BTW, All Nightmare Long is 8 min and takes 305 Blocks on Wii. Suicide & Redemption is 9 min, 57 sec! Anyone got a suggestion which is better, the J.H. or K.H. version?

I was gonna shoot pics again, but by now I figure you guys all know what the music store looks like.

I personally liked the preview of The Unforgiven III. I would buy it if I wasn't saving the remaining 500 Wii Points for the next Smash Hits Import Pack.

This is so stupid. Im a hardcore Metallica fan, but there is no reason I am going to spend 60 bucks for GH5 (wich I do not wanted when it came out) just to dl the 8 remaining tracks of Death Magnetic. FU Neversoft.
Why can't it be compatible with GH4? Bullshit.

I agree.  Guitar Hero World Tour just came out 1 year ago (Oct 2008) and already they have left it in the dust.  It's too soon for a $200 product (I bought the Band Kit when it came out).

I can't think of any technical reason why GH5 DLC wouldn't be compatible with GHWT either.  Remove the Band Moments and you'd think the charts should be virtually identical except for Expert+…

The bottom line is Activision focuses on maximizing profit, but often risks alienating their existing customers.

I know, it sucks for GHWT owners. Though buying GH5 is worth it (for you can bring in songs from other games, probably including GHM soon).
