Guitar Hero 5 Wii Music Store Opens, First Photos of GHWT Disc Import

Guitar Hero 5 Nintendo Wii Music Store GHWT Disc Importing

This is one of the biggest moments in Guitar Hero history, one that gamers have been wishing and waiting for – ever since Rock Band 2 allowed owners to import Rock Band 1 to build a mega song library.

Around midnight Wednesday (Thursday morning), the Guitar Hero 5 Music Store for Nintendo Wii finally opened up, allowing the long-awaited Guitar Hero World Tour disc importing. 5Frets.com was among the first to connect to the Music Store and captured the first photos of the Disc Import feature in action, minutes ago:

Here, the Guitar Hero World Tour disc import has been purchased and the user is given the choice to download all 35 available songs (default), or to skip certain songs for later download:

Notice the 8194 Block size! You're gonna need about 1.0GB free on your SD card to store this bad boy.

Notes:

  • "Special Offers" has free GHWT Updates split into 2 downloads (updates your existing DLC for GH5 compatibility, each update covers a portion of the DLC)
  • "Special Offers" prices for song Disc Imports:
  • Guitar Hero World Tour: 350 Wii Points (List of GHWT songs available for Guitar Hero 5 export)
  • Download size: 1.0GB, approx. 2 Hour download on broadband
  • Guitar Hero Smash Hits: 200 Wii Points (List of GHSH songs available for Guitar Hero 5 export)
  • Download size: 620MB, approx. 1 Hour download on broadband
  • You can view the Song List before you purchase a Disc Import
  • Song Import requires the 20 character owner's manual code from the game you wish to import
  • Song Previews are virtually *instant* now – impressive!
  • So far the songs appear to be an identical catalog to the GHWT DLC Music Store. i.e. no Rolling Stones DLC yet, and Wii still didn't get the rest of Metallica's Death Magnetic album besides the original 3.
  • 1 Track Pack is available right now: 5 Rolling Stones songs
  • 0 Albums available right now.
  • The 3 "Free" Activision Track Pack songs from 2 weeks ago are still not corrected to be free on Wii (200 Points)

First, I downloaded the two GHWT DLC compatibility Updates.  The process is fast and then says "Backing up to SD card", and then repeats.  I can only guess it's a very small update for each of my 18 DLC songs.

Then I purchased the Guitar Hero World Tour disc import, and entered in my 20 digit owner's manual key.  The download took a full 2 hours to complete. I tested a few songs afterward for good measure, and everything works just as it should.  Well done, Vicarious Visions.

You heard it here first!
